Click Logo for Sucker Punch Softball website Beaver Slap Softball will be resuming this year in league softball only. Some of it's members have moved on to the Sucker Punch Sally tournament softball team. Check out how they're doing abvove! Beaver Slap Softball 2008 Re-cap's 6.21.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - In their last tournament before a month off to get ready for the playoffs, Beaver Slap traveled to Nixa, MO to play at a new venue, Summers at the River. The place looks like it could really be something, but charging the players to get in on top of the tourney entry fee? Then to sell beer at $3.75 a bottle, but Sparks at $2.75. They can serve me Bubba all day. As for the tourney, several guys hit very well on the day. Michael Montgomery, Nathan Snodgrass, Matt Mabe, Matt Gawer & Michael Ransom all hit .632 or above. This was their first "E" rules tourney of the year and they did well, only having one HRO by last years HRO champ Mike Mabe. Once again the team played well overall, not making too many mistakes and coming up with a lot of big hits. Matt "The Lumberjack" Gawer got his licks in at the plate as well as nearly taking some at a particular 3rd baseman for the Udawgs. Needless to say, the 3rd basemen would have been the Underdawg had the Las Vegas odds makers given their opinions. Michael Ransom once again came in to relieve Matt Mabe of his pitching duties. Mabe had done all the work he was going to do that day. Ransom is now 0-2 pitching in two relief appearances this year. Despite the losses, he has been able to walk away from each game with all of his teeth as he seemed to irritate both teams he faced, who in turn hit middle. Aim somewhere else if you want a hit boys!

* On a positive note, we have not heard about Roger Clemens for some time now. 6.7.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - Beaver Slap returned to the familiar confines of the Steelville City Park. They played pretty well throughout the day, although they did make some mistakes in the 2 games that they lost. They gave up 9 run leads late in the game in each loss. Had they won either game, they would have had a rematch of the Licking tourney with the Mud Dawgs. Maybe another time. Despite playing well overall, the team really did not have anyone stick out offensively other than Matt Gawer. The team just came up with big hits when they needed them and played solid defense.
5.3.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - Beaver Slap returned to action this past weekend and couldn't ever shake off the rust. They had a nice comeback victory in their first game thanks to a walk-off HR by their pitcher Matt Mabe. Mabe was asked what he was thinking in that last at-bat and he said, "I just knew it was time to Do Work." Which is his theme for this season of softball. The phrase comes form the popular show on MTV's ROB & BIG. Someone may need to inform Mabe that he is neither Big nor Black, but it will not be this reporter to tell him. The rest of the day did not go well as they lost their next 3 games. In their second game they lost in the 7th inning to the eventual tournament winner Skeeter Boys. Defense really let the team down the entire tournament although there were a few bright spots on the day. In his Beaver Slap debut, Michael Montgomery had a good day and well ........ an even better night! Pictures from the night have been deemed classified! Except this one!
*On a side note, Roger Clemens' life continues to unravel.
4.12.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - Beaver Slap Softball recorded it's 2nd tournament vicory of the year at the ISA World Qualifier in Bridgeton, MO. In a mixed Class D & E tournament, the team was matched against some upper level competition. The team came out with a 4-1 record and played well all day. Their only loss was contributed mainly to alcohol and Eric Ransom's 2 inning ending Home Run Out's. Dave Adams also returned to the team after previously being traded to Tri-City. Apparently it was a wake up call as he hit .909 on the day. The team qualified for ISA World's in Florida, but they are waiting to see if the Mabe's can finance the trip.

3.29.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - Beaver Slap Softball competed in it's 2nd tournament of the year on a cold & dreary day. Despite the elements, Beaver Slap competed very well averaging over 28 runs per game in this unlimited HR event. The team hit for a .728 average & hit 37 HR's in 4 games. Every member had a big day, but 2 guys stuck out the most. Eric Ransom hitting .850 with 6 HR's on the day, 5 of them consecutively. Newcomer J-Lizzle, in his first ever softball action hit an incredible .889, reeling off 12 straight hits before making an out. Despite the inflated offensive numbers, Beaver Slap came in 2nd place with a 3-1 record. They won their pool play and went 1-1 in the single elimination part of the tournament, losing to the Mud Dawgs in the final.
2.23.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - Beaver Slap Softball had it's first team meeting of the year at East Office Bar & Grill. The team got together with management to discuss the upcoming season and to celebrate the trade of Dave Adams. The Mike Laga card was also on hand for the entire team as well as the public for a meet and greet. Check out the picture below of the team members along with their new acquisition. 2.21.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - In an update to the trade of former Beaver Slap catcher Dave Adams, Jerry Ward was able to contact Adams' former agent Eric Ransom. Mr. Ransom had this to say about his former client, "Dave is a good guy, but made it very difficult to sell his abilities to other teams. It appears the Beaver Slap organization felt that he would be better suited with his former team in Tri-City." Ward was also able to talk to the pitcher for Beaver Slap, Matt Mabe. Ward asked Mabe how he felt about the rest of the softball season and he indicated that he was ready to "Do Work". When asked if he thought this move would put them over the top and make them champions Mabe's only response to this question was, "Neeiiiiigh!" * On a side note, Roger Clemens testified in Congress on Tuesday. 2.20.08 CUBA, MO (CFP) - Beaver Slap Softball has made their first transaction of the young softball season. They have traded Catcher/EH Dave Adams & cash to the Tri-City Softball Club for 78,000 pesos ($1.17 U.S.) and an autographed Mike Laga baseball card. The amount of cash going to Tri-City was unkown, but it is believed to be to offset the whining & complaining that comes along with Adams. Beaver Slap management had this to say, "We're really excited about this deal as we all know how much the autographed Laga card is worth." When Jerry Ward, one of our sports writers, was able to contact Adams via telephone he had no comment on the trade. Time will tell how this move pans out. **UPDATE** Q&A with the Director of Player Personnel for Beaver Slap, Michael Ransom. JERRY WARD (CFP) - It appears that your club is having a youth movement, is this part of the motivation behind this move? RANSOM - Beaver Slap is in the process of instilling more youth into it's organization. Dave was the oldest member at the time and just did not have the experience or skill set to match the rest of the older members of the team. WARD - There has been rumors that the move was made because of your interest in signing Lindsey Monroe to your team in place of him. Any truth to this?RANSOM - Although it is well known that Mr. Adams often bitches & complains like a girl, there is no truth to this rumor. WARD - Last year your clubhouse appeared to be very disgruntled due to Adams actions, is this going to be your year with him gone? RANSOM - We definitely are expecting this move to take us to another level. The addition of an autographed Mike Laga card should bring this team together. We had a lot of good times with Mr. Adams, but the run was over. We wish him luck with the Tri-City team where he should immediately become a star. Quick Trivia Jerry, Do you know the only player to ever hit a baseball out of the old Busch Stadium? WARD - Mike Laga! Very crafty move for you to get that card into your organization.
* For more insight into the possible reasoning for this trade, check out the 2007 team awards for the Beaver Slap club. 2.9.08 STEELVILLE, MO (CFP) - In an early season outing, Beaver Slap is off to a good start with a victory in the 1st Annual SnoBall to benefit the late Sam Halbert family. It was quite a turnout with 16 teams for such an early event, and it turned out very good. There was a lot of money raised and a lot of softball played. Beaver Slap was able to go through the tourney 5-0 despite the good competition. The Player of the Weekend was Matt Gawer who at times carried this team.
